Jan Walden has studies BEING. a personal Coach for over 20 years.  She strongly believes in GOD, Jesus, The Universe, the Source, or even the Force.  She thanks GOD for all her gifts, and only uses them to help people and give them some direction.  She gives credit to Nancy Garen,  Jan Walden was appointed to the NJ Turnpike Authority by the Governor …making her the first African American Women to serve as a Commissioner.  Many people know Jan Walden, the former Assistant Executive Director at NJ Transit as an advocate for equity and inclusion. In fact, she should be best known as a true Crusader for issues concerning women, minorities and entrepreneurship. She has worked tirelessly on these issues (for 30 years). She earns the title of “A True Crusader” having dedicated her life and specifically her career to helping to clear the way for enfranchising and empowering New Jersey Small Businesses.  As Commissioner she served on the ITS & Procurement and Materials Management Committee, and the Engineering and Maintenance Committee.

Today, just the sound of her name is met with recognition and reverence. Small, Minority, and Women  business owners are especially gracious to her for her tenacity, her doggedness and her stick-to-it-ness. They are just as indebted to her for visions for them. Her background for hiring minority and women is also just as impressive; she closely monitored the state to ensure non-discrimination in minority and women workforce participation.

During the last few decades, Jan has worked for the NJ TRANSIT Corporation; and always in role that allowed her to hone her skills in Diversity Programs; including high level management of the NJ TRANSIT’s Disadvantage Business Enterprises Program and its Equal Employment Opportunities Program. Now, in her own company J Walden & Associates, her mission is to advance the principles of diversity and inclusion. Her daily tasks include embracing diversity programs within the State of New Jersey.  Jan resides, and was educated in New Jersey and attended Rutgers University. She is a recent widow, and has two successful grown children.

Jan Walden recently served as the Senior Director of Small Business Strategies and Workforce Initiatives, for Columbia University’s Manhattanville Project, as a consultant, and Vice President of McKissack & McKissack. Her 30 years of experience has made her an expert in minority women and small business development.  Ms. Walden will leave as part of her legacy  over $1 billion dollars going to minority and women small businesses, and she hopes to have the same type of success as one of the Commissioner’s of the NJ Turnpike Authority, as she continues to assist the state in development and implementation of Small, Minority and Women Business initiatives.

Jan Walden represents public agencies and private firms on issues related to Civil Rights, Public Contracting and Affirmative Action. She has broad experience in conducting defensible Disparity Studies, expert  Integrity Monitoring,  conducting Surveys and Focus Groups, expert witness consulting and testimony, drafting legislation and policies, designing programs, managing initiatives, defending Affirmative Action Programs, and counseling private firms on compliance with diversity requirements. Ms. Walden is also a frequent public speaker and expert on these issues.
